DVD Review: Avatar

Why did James Cameron name it Avatar?

that always puzzled me.

Avatar is one of the great movies I have on dvd. I really enjoyed the movie, but only got the basic dvd version, becuase it was cheap!

This movie is about a planet call Pandora, where the RDA Corporation is mining for unobtanium. The planet is inhabited with a race called Na’vi, whci are 10 foot tall blue people with strange ponytails.

Corporal Jake Sully was offered a job on Pandora after his brother was killed in action, because they both have the same DNA (well dar!) He meet with Dr. Grace Augustine, who was studying the Na’vi people and believed the RDA mining was hurting them. Jake Sully became one of the Na’vi who learns their ways of life. Jake finds himself fighting for the Na’vi’s to save thier home and planet.

The effect in this films are amazing, it show we have come long way with effects. This movie does have a feel good and make you think abit about our own world.

 

DVD Review: 4400 season 1

I remember this show on tv, but in 2004. at the time the network that show it made a “big deal” of the show. the first episode was a movie length which sucks you in on what and why these 4400 people are here.
This show is about 4400 people who was abducted by a beam of light from the period of 1949 to 2001. then they were all brough back in 2004 with no memory or none have aged. As you watch they discover that these 4400 people have special gives. Some are good and some are bad.

The 4400 spend most of the time trying to find out why they are here, and why they have these special gives.

Watch out for the little girl in it, she very creepy.

Towards end of season one, this was reveals that the 4400 were abducted by aliens, as much of them thought they were, but were taken by people from the future in order to save the future.

The show only lasted on Australian tv for 2 seasons, and was taken off air. According to Wiki, there was 5 seasons, but season was never made due to writers strikes.

I only have season 1 on dvd, becuase I like season 1 and found season 2 to be a bit of a bore.

Armageddon Expo: Melbourne….

Over the weekend, my dad took me to Armageddon in Melbounre, where my dad got to see an inside of my nerdy life. He thought I was nerd, but that weekend he got to see another side of it!

Dad meet his hero Sylvester Mc Coy and Micheal Shanks. We got tattoos ( fake ones, LOL) and Justin and I got to meet John Di maggio.

Geek Pride Day!

Happy Geek Pride Day!

Now this is a holiday that I can be proud of….

How to celebrate this holiday is to be a geek. If you don’t know how to be one, here is a list of ideas you can do:

• Find your local comic book store, and find a comic book that opens your eyes. Find a comic book, that you will love to read. Some of my favourite comic books would be Batman, Sandman, The Spirit, Transmetropolitan, Green Lantian, Superman, Wonder Woman, and even Xmen. If want something that take a little longer than 5 mins to read, then get V for Vandentta, Watchmen, Sin City, but if you want Manga, Mega Toyko, or you dont want to leave the house try Cad-comics (http://www.cad-comic.com) These are most of the comic books in my house!

• Go to you local video/dvd store – science ficton moives are great! Have a sicence fiction marathon. Some of my favourites will be;  Aeon Flux, Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Robocop, Star Trek (any star trek movie and yes there is more than one!), Stargate (the original with James Spacer), Tron, Terminator, Logan’s Run, Soilent Green, The Day the Earth Stood Still ( original is better!), War of the Worlds, Star Wars, Matrix, just to name a few. I got a book for Chirstmas with sci-fi films you must see ( 101 sc-fi film you must see before you die)

• Everyone should have some sort of game console, Wii, Xbox, Playstation. I have all 3, I still wonder why I do. Invite your friends around for a game or two. But if you dont want to play video games or dont have a console, you can always play board games. Once a month Justin and I host a board game night, some of our favourite are Scrabble, Bloderdash, Pictionary Man, tipayatounge. They are loads of fun.

• Last one, go out to some where education and fun, like the Muesum or to Art Gallary, or even Imax. Here in Melboure we have Scince Works, which is loads of fun, (science works)

Happy Christmas everyone

I know, we are in the middle of January, but I just got back from my trip to Canberra which I’ll post a little later on.

Christmas, was at my parents house in Drouin ( in victoria, australia; google it and you will see!) We went on the 24th and stayed the night.
We got up early as always and open our Christmas presents:

This was in my sack. You can see i got Dirty Dacing on DVD. and more hand towels ( this is a running joke with mum, she always gets them for us becuase she thinks we have none. one year she got me 20 of them!)
These were all the presents under our tree. Yes, I know the tree is small, but it makes it look like we got heaps of presents.
This was from dad. Its so cool, we played with this for ages. It came with a black cover that you put on the back and it makes eletric hand prints.
This is from Justin, ‘Never Mind the Bullocks’ by Dr Karl. This is a great book to read, I have almost finished it.
This one is funny. Mum goes to me, ‘here some money and go and get yourself a present, and give it back to me so I can give it to you on Christmas’ so I went out and got Simpsons Scence it? We played this game after lunch, and my sister thought she was the biggest Simpsons fan, but I won the game.
Another one from Justin. I love my sci fi movies, I havent gone though this book as yet, but i think i have seen about 50 movies of it.
This one from Cheryl and mum. I finally have my own copy of Star Wars. It makes sence seems I have alot of Star Wars collectables around the house.
This one from Cheryl. This one of my all time favorite movies. Still haven’t seen it yet, becuase Justin doesn’t like it.
These from Justin. I got games to play, so far Lego Rockband is my favorite.
This one from Justin. I pick this one out for him to get for my.
Another one from Justin. Learning all about man on the moon.
This is from my dad, the last series of Red Dwarf.

We did some cooking:

rum balls and gingerbread ( mum’s oven is playing up) and I did make them myself!

after we open our presents we had lunch.

Lunch was soooooo Yummy. Mum got the most freshes Prawns and I couldnt stop eating them. The salads were yummy and filling. I kept my promise and nver pigged out and I never got a chance to have any trifle, which i was pissed off about.
